Surah Baqarah

The name Al Baqarah, meaning “the cow” which refers to an incident involving the Israelites and a cow, which i s discussed in verses 67–73. This surah highlights faith, respect and the importance of spiritual guidance. It also includes Ayat-ul-Kursi (Verse 255), one of the most powerful and frequently recited verses in the Quran.

Surah Baqarah is the 2nd and largest surat of Holy Quran. It is consist of 286 verses (ayats) and 40 rukus. This surah is the most important surah in Quran which covers various aspects of faith, law, ethics, discipline and guidance. Why is surah Baqarah so important?

Surah Baqarah is the most lengthy and important chapter in the Holy Quran, it provides A complete guide to spiritual and practical aspects of Muslims life. It consists of 282 Ayah on justice and financial dealings. It also commands on the key pillars of faith such as prayer, fasting, charity and Hajj. The third most important thing is this surah includes ayat al Kursi in verse 255, is one of most powerful verses in Quran, that talks about Allah’s supremacy, authority, knowledge and grip on all the universe.

Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ)  says that reciting surah Baqarah in home, protect house from Shaytan. 

Why was Surah Baqarah revealed?

Every surah was revealed for any purpose, Surah Baqarah was related to guide early Muslims community after the move to Madina. It gives them guidance on how to live as a good Muslim in a new society. This surah is the most lengthy surah and it covers all important topics like prayer, fastin, charity, marriage, business and justice. This Surah tells stories of past prophets Prophet’s Musa, Dawud and Isa to teach lessons and remind peoples to stay faithful to Allah and how to live in a society. Surah Baqarah helps muslims to how to stay shaped in life and how to build a strong, fair and faithful community.

Why is surah baqarah called the cow?

There is a story of a cow in verses 67 to 73 that’s why this surah is called “The Cow”. This story i s about the peoples of Musa, who were commanded by Allah to sacrifice a cow. Except they obey Allah’s order they start asking unnecessary questions and make a tak difficult to themselves. The story teaches an important lesson about obedience, faith, and not overcomplicating Allah’s commands. Because this story is unique and carries a strong message, the surah was named Al-Baqarah, which means “The Cow” in Arabic.

Ayat ul-Kursi 

Ayat ul-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255) is one of the most powerful and revered verses in the Quran. Known for its profound spiritual significance, this verse highlights the grandeur and sovereignty of Allah (SWT). The verse describes Allah’s absolute dominion over the heavens and the earth, emphasizing His omnipotence, omniscience, and eternal nature. It declares that no one has the power to intercede with Allah unless He permits, underscoring His supreme authority and wisdom. The verse concludes by reminding the believers that Allah is ever-watchful and that His knowledge encompasses everything, both in the seen and the unseen.

Reciting Ayat ul-Kursi holds immense rewards and blessings. It is believed to provide protection from harm, both physical and spiritual, and can guard the reciter from the evil of jinn, shayatin (devils), and any form of negative influences. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized the significance of this verse, mentioning that whoever recites it after every obligatory prayer, there is nothing standing between them and entering Paradise except death. This indicates the verse’s ability to draw the believer closer to Allah, reinforcing their faith and reliance on His mercy and protection.

Furthermore, Ayat ul-Kursi serves as a reminder of the ultimate reality: that everything in existence is in the hands of Allah. By meditating upon its meanings, believers are encouraged to reflect on the transient nature of worldly matters and the importance of submitting to Allah’s will. The verse instills a sense of peace and security in the hearts of those who recite it regularly, reminding them that no matter the challenges they face, they are under the protection and care of the Almighty. It is a verse that invites both awe and comfort, reinforcing the bond between the believer and their Creator.
